Question by whirlwine: can liposuction be used to reduce weight to get into the guard or military?
I have a friend that is talking seriously about getting liposuction done to help him lose part of the 90 lbs he needs to lose to get into the military.
Obviously its not authorized or suggested, I think he’s planning to not tell them.

Ideas? Is he right -will it work?

What are the moral implications?

It is his choice. However, the MEPS doc will need the surgery report and to have let the procedure heal and all follow up done prior to looking at him. Best bet – do push aways, eat less and exercise more. Losing the weight should be lifestyle change for life, not just a reduction for entry. 90 lbs is a lot and the surgeon may be reluctant to take that much out. He is right it works, not to this extent. Here is a reasonable diet and exercise program to get ready for the rigors of Basic Training and lose weight. Cheaper too.

I know there is no exercise, that will cause you to lose weight from your hips, just exercises that will cause you to gain muscles around your hips, or at least that is what I’ve been told.
My hips are unusually large and are incredibly embarrassing.

I am modestly overweight, and like many, have been unable to get rid of the 20+ pounds I would like to through diet and exercise. While liposuction is generally viewed as cosmetic surgery, since it is removing fat, does it have similar health benefits to other forms of fat/weight reduction?

Will liposuction reduce the liklihood of getting heart disease, diabeties, etc.?
